COVID19 Essential Businesses

Governor Tony Evers issued a "Safer at Home" Order on March 24, 2020, meaning that all "non-essential" businesses should close. 

The following types of businesses are exempted from the order and may stay open:

  • Healthcare Operations
     
  • Human Service Operations (long-term care and assisted living facilities, etc.)
     
  • Essential Infrastructure (Utilities, food production, etc.)
     
  • Essential Governmental Functions (police & fire, etc.)
     
  • Stores that sell groceries and medicine
     
  • Food and beverage production and agriculture
     
  • Organizations that provide charitable and social services (food banks, etc.)
     
  • Media (radio, television and newspapers)
     
  • Gas stations and businesses needed for transportation
     
  • Financial institutions and services
     
  • Hardware and supplies stores
     
  • Building and construction trades (plumbers, electricians, exterminators, cleaning and janitorial staff, etc.)
     
  • Mail, shipping, logistics, delivery, and pick-up services
     
  • Higher educational institutions (for purposes of facilitating distance learning)
     
  • Laundry services (Laundromats, dry cleaners)
     
  • Bars and restaurants for consumption off-premises
     
  • Businesses that sell, manufacture, or supply products needed for people to work from home 
     
  • Businesses that sell, manufacture, or supply other Essential Businesses and Operations with the support or supplies necessary to operate 
     
  • Transportation (Airlines, taxis, transportation network providers)
     
  • Home-based care and services for seniors, adults, or children 
     
  • Professional services, such as legal or accounting services
     
  • Child care services
     
  • Funeral establishments
     
  • Hotels and motels
     
  • Manufacturers, distribution, and supply chain for critical products and industries
     
  • Critical labor union functions
     
  • Weddings, funerals and religious entities
